National Gospel Music Awards Launched to Celebrate Stakeholders in Ghana’s Gospel Music Industry

National Gospel Music Awards (NGMA), an award scheme set up to solely recognise persons with key interest in Ghana’s gospel music industry has been officially introduced.
The NGMA launch which took place at Miklin Hotel in Kumasi on Monday was attended by members of the country’s gospel fraternity. They included, but not limited Willie & Mike, Gifty Osei, Mabel Okyere, Brother Sammy and Joseph Mensah.
Shedding light upon the award scheme, the PRO Mr. Peter Kwabena Dwobeng Sergio told KMJ, host of Daybreak Hitz on Accra-based Hitz 103.9 FM on Tuesday that it comes at the backdrop of calls to institute an award scheme that would solely celebrate stakeholders in the country’s gospel music industry.
“After thinking through very well, we felt it was time to come out with the scheme – that would project industry players and recognise whoever is involved within the gospel setup,” he said.
Sergio also mentioned it has widely been accepted by gospel musicians and other stakeholders when quizzed about the degree of response. He also noted the maiden edition would be considering works between 2013 to 2017.
Organisers are currently calling for entries – forms can be picked free-of-charge at front desk of Luv 99.5 FM, Nhyira 104.5 FM (all in Kumasi) and all Multimedia Group affiliates across the nation.
The National Gospel Music Awards is powered by Royal Akofena Entertainment.
